LENT. Day 1.

LENT.
(The posts won’t all be as long as this one. I promise!)

Confession: I’ve never done this before. I’ve never seen a Lent challenge through. As I’ve prepared for this, I’ve already learned a lot.

Intro: John Roquemore + I are doing 40 days of posts aimed at challenging and encouraging white people to personally advocate for racial justice. I’ll do my best to post my thought/idea in the status box + then any resources + helps in the post itself or in the comments section below.

DAY 1:
I think beginning to advocate for racial justice MUST start with understanding that white privilege is real. Open your mind to the possibility that the “white” color of your skin has offered you a different life than people of color.

For a really basic intro to privilege, watch this video.

A BIG IDEA FOR BEGINNING TO UNDERSTAND PRIVILEGE:
+++ Diversify the influential voices in your life. +++

– Listen to this poet define it from her perspective.

– Here are just a few amazing folks that you can follow online…

Do your best to TRULY LISTEN to what they have to say as they share their truth.

– Join me & some other white folks in a virtual book club (video chat as introvertedly or extrovertedly as you’d like) to read “Between the World & Me” by Ta-Nehisi Coates.
