LENT. Day 11.

LENT. Day 11.

Go, LOOK for things which challenge your perspective.

I’m even going to give you 4 days’ worth of recommendations, across the board – there’s something here for EVERYONE.

Take your pick of intensity as well as format.
I am also including brief descriptions for each item.

I am extremely hopeful that you will come back to me with other things that you’ve found that will help me – and others – to grow, too.

If you manage to take in ALL these things of these 4 days, message me, and I’ll gladly have you over, bake some super yummy chocolate chip cookies for you, and we can talk about any of it. For real. Let’s celebrate learning and growing together!

Every single one of these resources is worthwhile for different reasons.

SO… look for FILMS which challenge your perspective.

THINGS TO WATCH which are longer than one hour:

  • 13TH | 1 hr 40 min
    A documentary streaming on Netflix.
This is intense. It’s painful. It’s HARD to lean into. But it’s one of the most important things I’ve ever watched.
  •  HOMECOMING KING by Hasan Minaj | 1 hr 12 min
A stand up comedy special streaming on Netflix.
This is light. Fantastic comedy that also really talks about what it’s like to -not be white- in America.
  •  CRASH | 1 hr 52 min
Narrative film, streaming on Amazon Prime.
I remember this film, a first, really challenging my paradigm SO HARD when I saw it because I really thought at the time that racism was mostly a thing of the past.
  • TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD | 2 hr 9 min
    Narrative film, streaming on Netflix.
Classic film from the 1960’s which highlights racism and prejudice that is still reflected in today’s culture.
  • TWELVE YEARS A SLAVE | 2 hr 14 min
Narrative film, available on Netflix DVD or Amazon online rental for $2.99.
Intense, painful, and important look at slavery.
  • THE BIRTH OF A NATION (2016) | 2 hr
Narrative film, available on Netflix DVD or Amazon online purchase for $11.99. Incredibly powerful film about slavery.
