The Whole Ultrasound Story.

I’m still in complete shock about our little baby.
We saw the little one wiggling on screen for us on Monday.
Baby Roque waved at us, wiggled little toes, sucked a thumb…
& it was the coolest moment of my whole life.
We saw a little heart beating oh-so-fast: 154 beats per minute.
We turned away from the screen as the sonographer typed the gender.
We anxiously waited as she wrote down,
“Congratulations, it’s a ……”

We took our envelope to the Brandon Mall, to Build-A-Bear.
We chose a bear. We explained our whole spiel to the lady who worked there.
We took two “record your own sound” boxes into the back room & we recorded:
“We love you, baby girl.” & “We love you, baby boy.”

We gave her both sounds & the envelope.
We went to make a birth certificate for the bear. We paid.
We got the bear (in the box) & went on our way.

We waited.
All day.
Seriously, like hours.

Then, we had our whole family piled into the living room.
My sister Laura on skype above the TV,
John, Dana, Papa Roque, my Dad,
James (shooting video of the whole thing), BJ, my Mom, Mama Roque, Peter & me.

We told them about our decision to find out the gender.
We told them about our plan to wait to find out until we could all find out together.
My Mom opened the box the bear was in.
Mama Roque took the bear out.
My Dad & Papa Roque prayed for our little one.
John made some jokes & then (FINALLY) pushed the button.
We heard:

We love you, baby…  GIRL!

It’s a girl!!!

Cheers & clapping, all sorts of fun.
We ate dinner, we played games, we talked baby.
We looked at all the ultrasound photos (26) & the video John made of the ultrasound…

The whole family piled around with hands on my belly & everyone took turns praying for our little girl.
It was the most perfect evening. We have a beautiful little girl growing in there & she’s oh-so-loved.

For now, you have the story.
This week, I’ll post the video & photos from the ultrasound.

  1. John–I sat and read the story to Matt Tucker. This is a fabulous idea and I am so excited for you both.

  2. I’ve loved following all your cute ideas and thoughts about babies on here, Lee Anne. I don’t know that Daniel and I would have been this organized (and not freaking out at being pregnant so soon!) after being married for less than a year. I absolutely love the way you planned to have everyone together to find out the gender: what a beautiful experience that must have been.

  3. Awwww, girls are great! And if you do have more later, they are wonderful helpers. So happy for you. Also, girls are easier to infant potty train. I did it with my first. 🙂

  4. YAYYYYYYYY!!!!!!! I’m so happy for you guys!! What a brilliant idea!! How funny that the Build A Bear lady knew before anyone (other than the sonographer) – I bet that made her day!!!!
I’m so excited LeeAnne – can’t wait.. and no “boy dilemmas” : ) The 3 of us should get together again soon.

  5. wonderful news! so excited for you and such a neat way to share the moment with your family while you are able to be with them…. praying for you!
